Who we are and what we do
Founded in 2011, Mappedin powers search and discovery indoors, enabling consumers to find what they’re looking for with speed and ease. Our software platform provides industry leading tools to manage dynamic indoor spatial data and offer wayfinding experiences for customer-facing applications, including a recent collaboration with Apple Maps.
Mappedin works with the ten largest malls in Canada, the largest REITs in the US, and in stores, hospitals, campuses, and airports around the world.
The Consumer team at Mappedin enables our customers to deliver the best possible experience to their end users by building robust SDKs and easy to use applications. We help them dream of what’s possible, and then help turn those dreams into reality.
Who you are and what you’ll do
You are a designer who can understand the intrinsic motivation of a user while recognizing the difference between #FF5800 and #FFA500. You love the psychology of how people interact with technology and thrive on how to create a great experience.
You are aware and excited about new design concepts and love to learn. We expect you to be passionate about design. You don’t have to know how to code, but you’ll need to be able to interact intelligently with developers who will be bringing your designs to life.
As part of the Consumer team and reporting to the Software Development Manager, you will you will own the look and feel of a suite of products spanning responsive web, directories, and mobile applications:
- Create and test design prototypes
- Communicate designs using mockups, wireframes and written descriptions
- Run user story mapping sessions and develop user journey maps
- Build white label consumer experiences, taking into account customer branding into final design
- Learn about and relate to Mappedin’s customers as well as your colleagues in product management
- Collaborate with your peers in software development to help guide them towards building the most usable version of our products
The ideal candidate likely has experience in one or more of the following areas as well:
- Balancing design vs efficiency
- Designing for interfaces based on user-generated content
What are some challenges?
We’re trying out a lot of new things at Mappedin right now, design being one of them. We don’t have the luxury of time to do a lot of UX research, so you will need to be comfortable making UX / interaction decisions without always being able to validate with customers. It’s okay if we get it wrong, we can fix it. The challenge will be whether or not you’re okay with releasing a design that won’t be perfect.
Behind the scenes
Our tool set currently includes Sketch, Abstract, Adobe Creative Suite, and JIRA, but we are firm supporters in supplying whatever tools are necessary for you to produce your best work. Our final products are built using React, so some familiarity with its strengths and weaknesses is an asset, but not necessary.
