Who we are and what we do

Founded in 2011, Mappedin powers search and discovery indoors, enabling consumers to find what they’re looking for with speed and ease. Our software platform provides industry leading tools to manage dynamic indoor spatial data and offer wayfinding experiences for customer-facing applications, including a recent collaboration with Apple Maps.

Mappedin works with the ten largest malls in Canada, the largest REITs in the US, and in stores, hospitals, campuses, and airports around the world.

The Enterprise Tools team builds the web applications used directly by Mappedin itself and our biggest customers to create all the maps and keep them up to date

Who you are and what you’ll do

You have excellent organizational skills (able to keep tabs on all fronts of the Consumer and Enterprise teams). You have deep experience in Agile software development. You have the ability to collaborate effectively with sales, product and development teams, to align the goals and projects between departments. You can share deep experiences in at least one of the following: interaction design, application design, or visual design. You can help adapt the product while keeping in mind the business needs without sacrificing usability. Ultimately, you will be a leader guiding the vision in product design - helping the Consumer and Enterprise team succeed but still able to pick up hands-on work in to fill in or support projects

You also have examples of SaaS products that you have lead design on which have been successful in the industry. You have a strong portfolio and can show us portfolios of designers you have mentored. You are comfortable giving educated opinions and are willing to suggest a better solution

As part of the Enterprise Tools team and reporting to the Software Development Manager:

  • You are someone who enjoys improving upon and iterating on an existing and complex system
  • Someone who works closely with developers to build new tools, potentially create new front-end tools from existing building blocks
  • You know of front-end web development and is someone who understands HTML/CSS and how web pages are made up
  • You can clarify and describe complex concepts to different kinds of users

The ideal candidate likely has experience in one or more of the following areas as well:

  • 3D modeling, animation, mapping (wayfinding, navigation)
  • Skills in developing for content creation (e.g. for CMS) and content curation (for the Consumer team) implementation of features

What are some challenges?

We’re trying out a lot of new things at Mappedin right now, design being one of them. We don’t have the luxury of time to do a lot of UX research, so you will need to be comfortable making UX / interaction decisions without always being able to validate with customers. It’s okay if we get it wrong, we can fix it. The challenge will be whether or not you’re okay with releasing a design that won’t be perfect.

Behind the scenes

Our tool set currently includes Sketch, Abstract, Adobe Creative Suite, and JIRA, but we are firm supporters in supplying whatever tools are necessary for you to produce your best work. Our final products are built using React, so some familiarity with its strengths and weaknesses is an asset, but not necessary.

There’s a lot of trust here at Mappedin. We offer a flexible working environment, have a generous vacation policy, and we all work together to help you produce your best work. We stay curious, challenge opinions, take risks, and learn from mistakes. We’re competitive and we like to win together.

Lastly, if you’re allergic to cats, don’t worry! Our office cat, Hobbes stays in his own room and won’t bother you unless you decide to work in there with him.
